LeRoy H. King, Jr., MD went to be with the Lord on August 3, 2022. Lee was born in Paducah, KY, September 4, 1937, the only child of LeRoy H. King, Sr. and Goldia F. King. Lee graduated as Valedictorian from Tilghman High School. He received a scholarship to Duke University, where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. He earned his MD from Indiana University School of Medicine. Post graduate training in Internal Medicine and Nephrology was completed at Indiana University Medical Center. Lee then joined the teaching faculty at the Indiana University Medical Center and the Veteran’s Administration Hospitals.

Lee was a proud member of the United States Army from 1969-1971. Major King was on the clinical and teaching faculty at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington D.C. He joined the staff at Methodist Hospital in 1971, and started the hospital’s Kidney Transplant Program. On January 1, 1972, Methodist Hospital became one of the first private hospitals in the United States to perform a kidney transplant. Lee was a founding member of Nephrology and Internal Medicine, Inc. He remained in the group’s clinical practice until his retirement.

Dr. King was Board Certified in Internal Medicine, and was elected to Fellowship in the American College of Physicians. He was awarded the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels; served on the Medical Advisory Board of the National Kidney Foundation of Indiana; and was a member of Methodist Hospital Health Foundation.

Dr. King was an avid, but high handicap golfer who enjoyed two holes in one. Some of his favorite memories were made with “The Indy Cruiser” group of friends and his Florida buddies. He was a fan of the Indianapolis Colts, IU and Duke basketball, and the St. Louis Cardinals. Lee coached his sons in youth basketball and baseball in Lawrence Township. He served as President of the Skiles Test Baseball League.

Lee was a member of Cornerstone Lutheran Church in Carmel. He was active in several Indianapolis and Carmel churches as a volunteer, adult Sunday School Teacher, and leader of small group Bible studies. He proudly completed the Indianapolis Men’s Bible Study Fellowship Program.

Dr. King leaves behind his wife of 30 years, Judith Fox Baker King; his five children, Stephen King (Robynne), Heather King, Brandon King, Carson King, Rev. Travis King (Kelly), two step-children, Carleton Baker (Jennifer), and Kristin Punke (Fred), and former wife, Carol Jane Henzie King. Lee cherished fifteen grandchildren, Savannah Brown (Hunter), Sarah King; Madeline, Spencer, and Hayden King; Colton, Kensy, Casen, and Canon King; Samuel, Sawyer, and Straughan Baker; Alyssa, David, and Alexander Punke.

Lee was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Lonna Lovell King, and daughter-in-law, Michelle Hublar King.

A Memorial Service will be held at 12:30 PM, Friday, August 19, 2022 at Cornerstone Lutheran Church, 4850 East Main Street, Carmel, Indiana 46033. Visitation is at the church from 6:00-8:00 PM on Thursday evening, August 18, and also before the service on Friday, August 19 from 11:00-12:30 PM. An Inurnment Ceremony will be at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery immediately following the service.
