Laura Anne Tyner, 61, of Indianapolis passed away peacefully February 10, 2020 after a seven-month battle with cancer. Laura was born March 31, 1958 to Gerald and Jacqueline Riedman in Lexington, KY. She was raised in Decatur, IL and graduated from St. Teresa High School (’76). She graduated from Illinois State University with a BA in Special Education and Indiana University with a Master’s in Education Administration.
Laura is survived by her beloved husband of 28 years, Matthew Tyner Sr.; her daughter, Lindsay (Ryan) Dempsey; her son, Matthew (Robyn) Tyner Jr. She was a proud Nina to her grandchildren, Lauren and Andrew Dempsey. Laura is also survived by her sisters, Suzanne (Belinda) Riedman and Joanne (Andy) Cygan; and her brothers, Steve (Denise) Riedman, Bill (Lynne) Riedman, and Mark Riedman. She will be deeply missed by her dogs, Lucky and Daly, many nieces and nephews, and lifelong friends.
Laura was a proud college baseball coach’s wife who dedicated her life to teaching kids with special needs. She spent 20 years in real estate management before rekindling her love of teaching special education. Throughout her career, she impacted children in Decatur, IL; Indianapolis, IN; Louisville, KY; Richmond, VA; and Towson, MD. Laura set the bar for loving without condition: her optimism was contagious, and her faith defined her. She was known for putting everyone before herself and lived by the mantra ‘the more the merrier’. Laura treasured her time with her husband, children, and grandchildren; her family was always her first priority.
