Kristine "Kris" Rae West

Kristine “Kris” Rae West Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on December 6, 2021 at the age of 63.

Kris was born February 14th, 1958 in Fort Wayne, IN to Gary and Barbara McAfee. She graduated from Elkhart Memorial High School in 1977, and graduated from IU-Bloomington in 1982 with a bachelor’s degree in speech and hearing. She then completed a master’s degree in speech pathology at Indiana State University in Terre Haute, IN, which is where she met the love of her life Roger, who she married on October 25th, 1986.

Kris was an incredibly caring mother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, and Mimi who devoted her life to serving others selflessly with a servant’s heart. She found joy in all aspects of life and would tell you her greatest accomplishment was raising two wonderful, Christ-loving daughters. Kris was and continues to be a Christ-like example in every aspect of their lives, whether it was being a Brownie troop leader, classroom mother, Sunday school teacher, wedding planner, hostess extraordinaire, holiday decorator, or grandmother (“Mimi”). She was a prayer warrior with a passionate love for Jesus Christ, and would write down her prayers and favorite Bible verses in prayer journals. Kris was constantly praying for others, even praying over people’s clothes as she folded them. It has been a great comfort to hear her voice through her prayer journals and know she is waiting to help welcome us one day to Heaven. Her happy places included laughing on the pier or floating in the water at Lake Wawasee with family and friends; meeting her daughters for frequent shopping trips at TJ Maxx; dancing around the kitchen to her favorite songs; or finding peace in the still waters of Geist Reservoir and the beauty of God’s creation at sunset. Kris enjoyed watching birds in the morning with a cup of coffee and daily devotion, and always had her two little dogs (“minions”) on her lap. She loved to talk with her daughters daily, often multiple times. She looked forward to meals with family and friends, and delighted in feeding others in her home, especially at Christmas. Kris always thought of others’ interests before her own, and would drop whatever she was doing to aid a loved one in need. Kris was a role model of Christ’s love, a humble friend and listener who always encouraged others and made them feel special. She was beyond beautiful, both inside and out. Her gentle, pure soul will be missed dearly by all who were blessed to know her, and we look forward to the day when we can dance and sing with Kris again in the eternal presence of Christ our Lord and Savior.

She is survived by her husband of 35 years Dr. Roger Frank West, Jr; daughters Francesca “Franci” West Mott (Michael) and Victoria “Tori” West Arnold (Zachary); granddaughter Braelynn Mott; parents Gary and Barbara McAfee; siblings Donald McAfee (Jill) and Kim Fiant; father-in-law Dr. Roger F. West, Sr; sisters-in-law Melissa Bachman (Mark), Jenny Smith (Tim), and Judy Fleschner (Rob); brother-in-law Jim West (Linda); nieces and nephews Mallory, Carson, Kara, Tanner, Merissa, Avery, David, Brad, Laura, Rebecca, Stephanie, Rachel, and Robbie; her beloved dogs Lina Lu and Nani; as well as many cousins, fellow Christians, and friends. She was preceded in death by her brother Michael McAfee and her mother-in-law Jane West.

Visitation will be held Saturday, December 11 from 11 AM to 1 PM at Flanner Buchanan – Geist, 7855 Cork Road, Indianapolis.  Funeral Services will begin at 1 PM. Graveside Services and burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, Indianapolis.
