Karen Darlene Rhem

December 7, 1957 — February 3, 2022

Indianapolis, Indiana

Karen Darlene Rhem was born December 7, 1957 to Herschell and Leota Mann in Indianapolis, Indiana.  She was their seventh child and was welcomed with much love from her siblings and extended family.  After graduating from Broad Ripple High School in 1976, she began her career with the government at the IRS.  Being the determined young woman that she was, she went on to complete her Bachelor’s degree and went on to work in logistics.   Eventually she returned to government service with the United States Postal Service in 2001, where she was a dutiful colleague and beloved friend to many of her co-workers.

A devoted and loving mother, she raised her son Kenneth and twin daughters Katri and Ketta ; later helping raise her granddaughter Deveny in Indianapolis near family and friends.  Always thoughtful and caring, she imparted to them many life lessons on remaining optimistic and hopeful, finding the good in situations, and being thrifty so that you had more to share with others.  Whether it was supporting her children through college or encouraging them to pursue their passions, she was a constant cheerleader and supporter.  Her calm and gentleness will be missed.

Karen’s loving spirit was felt by everyone around her, from close family members to coworkers to strangers she met and helped.  She always had an encouraging word and a smile and laugh to brighten your day.  She loved the Lord and would often provide a scripture, prayer or song to uplift herself and others in need. She gave endlessly to multiple charities and often thought of others before herself.

On Thursday February 3, 2022 Karen Rhem passed away at the age of 64 with her family by her side.  She was preceded in death by her daughter Katri, her parents, brother Herschel Jr. and sister Vivian.  She is survived by her children, granddaughter Deveny, and many much-loved family and friends.
