Joseph Earl Miles of Indianapolis, Indiana was born on September 22,1942 and
passed away on November 22, 2019. Joe graduated from George Washington High
School in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1960. Joe was employed for 35 years by General
Motors Truck and Bus Company in Indianapolis, Indiana and retired in 1998. He started
as a linesman, worked his way up to a supervisor, and eventually became a General
Foreman over several employees. Through General Motors, Joe did earn several
college credits, but did not obtain a degree. Joe was heavily involved in Church, and
attended Charity Baptist – formerly known as Northwest Baptist church. He served as a
deacon for several years and was involved in every aspect of the church – including the
after school program known as CEF.
Joe was also a boy scout leader, coached NYAA little league, and his wife and
himself – along with a few other couples in the community – owned and ran the local
pool for several years. He was an avid Colts fan and owned season tickets for
numerous years. He enjoyed those Sunday afternoons at the stadium with his family
and beloved Colts.
Joe was a godly, christian man with a huge heart for everyone and never met a
stranger. No one was ever excluded when Joe was around. He loved working with
children and teaching them about Jesus, and helping any adult in or out of the church
who was in need.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife Carol Kay Miles (Hunter) of Indianapolis,
His mother Nell Miles (Perkins) of Indianapolis, his sister Johanna Miles, age eight, of
Indianapolis, his father Earl Glenn Miles of Indianapolis, his sister Betty Norris of
Seymour, Indiana, his sister Alice Cornette of Columbus, Indiana, and his son-in-law
Clifford Ross.
Joe is survived by his son Jeffrey Allen Miles of Bloomington, Indiana, his
daughter Teresa Ann Miles of Indianapolis, Indiana, his granddaughter Aurora Breann
Ross, 23, of Indianapolis, his grandson Joseph Austin Ross, 20, of Indianapolis, his
granddaughter Abrielle Caitlin Miles, 18, of Bloomington, Indiana, his granddaughter
Isabella Grace Miles, 15, of Bloomington Indiana, and his sister Emma Lents of
Indianapolis, Indiana.
Joe is at peace with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and his wife, Carol. Joe,
dad, grandpa will be missed by his family and all who knew him.
