He was born June 6, 1954. John is survived by his wife of 41 years, Joanne (Kyser) Black , son Jarred Black of Mooresville, daughter Jillian Wiggington of Plainfield, son Jordan and daughter-in-law Kayla (Sego) Black of Greenwood and daughter Jonalee Black of Mooresville. John was the proud grandfather of 7 grandchildren. Austin, Jacob, Jayla, Sydney, Joshua and Jase. John is also survived by a sister Barbara and her husband Tim Nawrocki, 7 brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law as well as many nephews, nieces and cousins. John is preceded in death by his parents Kenneth and Mary (Vandeventer) Black, brother Robert Black, grandson Josiah Black, Joanne's parents Don and Jean Kyser and her step-mother Sharon Kyser and many other loved ones. John graduated from Decatur Central High School in 1972. John worked at Laboratory Supply, Diamond Chain, Central Rubber and Supply, Roberts Dairy, EAR/Cabot Safety and Roadway, all of Indianapolis, Heitink Veneers and Herald Times of Bloomington. John retired in January, 2021, after 27 years as shipping manager at PRD in Springville, Indiana. John was a member of Pleasant Heights Baptist Church, Limestone Baptist Church of Bedford, Bloomington Baptist (now Redeemer) of Bloomington. He enjoyed serving in the churches, mentoring youth, teaching the Bible, partnering in prayer working with boys teaching Bible as well as practical skills. He had a heart for sharing Jesus demonstrated by his life and supported missions as well as faithfully distributing scriptures as a member of The Gideons International for about 40 years. John enjoyed participating in activities such as softball, baseball, basketball, bowling, golfing and camping. His most treasured times were with his grandchildren playing games, blocks, building fires, 4 wheelers, paper routes, power tools and pinewood derby cars. He rarely missed any game, meet, cheerleading, or marching band of the children or grandchildren or any programs or events in which family was involved. He enjoyed hearing Joanne play and sing music. Absent from this body, present with The Lord. Visitation will be held at Flanner Buchanan - Decatur Township, 5463 Kentucky Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46221 from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, October 15, 2021. Visitation also from 12-1 before the celebration of his life at 1, October 16, 2021 both at Pleasant Heights Baptist Church, 5625 Kentucky Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46221.   In Lieu of flowers, the family has asked for contributions to be made in John's name to The Gideons International for distribution of Bibles. Please share memories of John either on this site, the families Facebook, or at the time of visitation on cards provided.   Thank you to everyone who has supported our family in so many ways during this time of bereavement.
