John "Rusty" Russell Miller

May 5, 1951 — October 4, 2021

Indianapolis, Indiana

John “Rusty” Russell Miller passed away peacefully at home on October 4, 2021.  Rusty was born on May 5, 1951 to the late John Ray Miller and Dorothy “Jean” (Taylor) Miller and grew up in Broad Ripple.

Rusty graduated from Broad Ripple High School in 1969 and went on to attend Ball State University.   While in college, he worked at the Muncie airport where he developed a passionate interest in airplanes.   Rusty was able to spot the difference between a 737 and a DC 9’er from 10,000 feet away and would share his love of aircraft with friends and family.  He later graduated from Ball State and pursued a career as a manufacturing supervisor.

The only thing that could rival Rusty’s love for planes was his unwavering faith.  He was a proud member of the Fishers United Methodist Church and he prayed diligently for his family, friends, and the world at large.

In addition to his parents, Rusty was preceded in death by his sister, Jeanie (Miller) Taylor, his niece Katie Miller, and his step-mother Martha (Mellett) Miller.

He is survived by his children, Hollie (Aaron) Holland, and Allen (Nakia) Miller; as well as sisters Jackie (Thomas) Quarto, Jill (Tony) Criscimagna; brother James (Julie) Miller; grandchildren Liam, Chase, and Brinley Holland, Mia and Riley Miller; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends and family are invited to gather on Friday, October 15th at 10:00 AM with a Memorial Service to follow at 11:00 AM at Flanner Buchanan – Broad Ripple located at 1305 Broad Ripple Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46220.
