On the evening of July 30th, John Richard Weber passed away in Glendale, AZ. Following complications from surgery earlier that day due to a fall the previous evening. John was being visited and comforted by his son at the time of his passing. John was 87 years old.
John was born in Macomb IL. and grew up in Bushnell. IL., the first son of Mary C. Weber and Leo B. Weber. His father Leo was killed in an auto accident when John was only 10. John later attended Western Military Academy H.S. in Alton, IL. Upon graduation he continued living and working for Western Military Academy while attending college.
John enlisted in the Army and served 2 years in Korea from 1952 to 1953 as a 1st Lieutenant and was awarded the Bronze Star. On leave in Florida with his brother in the spring of 1953 he meet his first love and wife Carol Leach. They married in October of 1953 and had a son Larry in 1954. They divorced in 1960 after moving to Chicago from Washington, MO.
John was the General Manager of Affiliated Book Distributors in Chicago when he meet Delores (Dee) Clemente and they married in 1961 and divorced in 1992. In 1968 John moved to Indianapolis where he became the Warehouse Manager for Brylane, now a part of Redcats. After serving in various management positions he later became the Director of Engineering and retired in 2001 after 32 years.
John Married Frankie Altopp in 1993 and he was widowed in 2008 after Frankie lost her battle with cancer.
In the summer of 2009 John spent 3 months in Arizona where his first wife Carol had moved to be close to their son due to her declining health. Every day of that summer John would spend it with Carol as they talked about the past and caught each other up on their lives before she passed.
When John went back to Indianapolis he met Jana Whinrey and they became partners spending the winter in the motorhome in Naples, FL. And eventually moving to Naples in May of 2014.
John spent the last few weeks of his life in Glendale, AZ. to be close to his son Larry and daughter-in-law Jamie.
John was a man who always stayed busy and could never sit still. He obtained his private pilot’s license in 1967. In the 1970’s he became a fan of car racing and never missed an Indy 500 race and his love for cars caused him to restore 3 Buick Centurion convertibles that he would show at car shows and would almost always win first place. After marrying Frankie he finally got to build his dream, a massive HO model railroad layout that he spent years perfecting.
In 2000 John and Frankie bought a new Newmar Mortorhome and until 2014 he remained an active member of the Newmar Kountry Klub going to rally’s all over the country where he developed many great friendships, in particular with Gary and Penny Farber.
John was preceded in death by his Father Leo Weber, Mother Mary Weber, wife Frankie Weber and Sister-In-Law Nancy Weber.
John is survived by his Brother Don E. Weber, Son Larry (Jamie) Weber, Granddaughter Nicole (Justin) Kerstetter, Great Granddaughters Eleanor and Estella, Step-Grandson Miles Campos, Step Daughter Tammie Dyke and Step-Grandson Justin Dyke.
Calling will be held on Friday August 05, 2016 at Flanner and Buchanan-Speedway 2950 North High School Road Speedway, IN 46224 from 4 to 8 pm. A graveside service will be held on Saturday August 06, 2016 at Floral Park Cemetery at 10 am followed by Military Honors.
