John M. Weisel

88, of Indianapolis, passed away on October 27, 2016. John was born November 3, 1927, son of the late Charles H. and Donna M. Weisel. His sister Frances Elizabeth died in 1952. He served in the US Army during WW II and was a 1949 graduate of Lehigh University, Bethlehem, PA, where he earned a degree in Industrial Engineering. At Lehigh he ran on the varsity track team and was a member of Pi Kappa Tau fraternity. On July 28, 1951 John was joined in marriage to Janice Mae Shepardson, who was his loving wife until her death in 2009. John began his career with Mergenthaler Linotype in 1949 as a management trainee, then promoted to Production Control Manager. He was later employed by Curtiss Wright Corporation and American Bosch Arina, both as a member of their Industrial Engineering department. He started work for RCA in 1959 in Camden, NJ, later transferring to Indianapolis, and in 1966 to Memphis, TN as Materials Manager for the Memphis TV assembly plant. He closed out his RCA career in Indianapolis as Purchasing Manager for the Indianapolis location. John retired in 1996, after 37 years with the company. He truly loved his work and the people with whom he served. He is survived by his children, James S. (Linda), John C., Susan and William E. (Robin); grandchildren, Tim, Kevin and Kyle; great-grandchildren, Evelyn and Lila. Graveside services will be Thursday, November 3, 2016 at 1 p.m. at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Indianapolis Humane Society, Salvation Army or Gleaners Food Bank. Arrangements handled by Flanner and Buchanan-Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
