John Junior Marion, 84 of Indianapolis died December 28, 2018 surrounded by his loving family.
John was born in Columbus, IN. to John T. and Helen L. Marion. He was the oldest of three siblings. John was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and much more. He is honored for his service to our country during the Korean War. John was an aircraft electrician in the United States Air Force for four years. He was stationed in Bitburg, Germany from 1952-1955.
John met the love of his life, Jo Ann Marion while working at Western Electric in Indianapolis. His simple invitation to coffee sparked a beautiful marriage that spanned more than six decades. John loved working as an electrician for Navistar International Truck & Engine. He worked there for nearly 40 years but also enjoyed his side business, Marion Electric. John was a Shriner and volunteer firefighter. He will be remembered for his nobility, loyalty, and hard-working nature.
John’s family describes him as their protector and hero. He was the most selfless person they’ve ever known. John didn’t enjoy receiving gifts, his artform was giving. He had a passion for flying planes and taking care of his land. John was an expert gardener and dog whisperer. Through life’s difficulties, John cheered everyone with his incredible wit and endless supply of candy. He was a true gentleman and admired by all who knew him.
John is survived by his children, (J.R.) John Marion (Susan), Pamela J. Martin, Cynthia M. Harbison (Jeff), Diana S. Marion, Patricia H. Sullivan (Patrick), 22 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and brother Max Marion.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Jo Ann Marion, his daughter Phyllis Ann Marion, and sister Grace E. Williams.
Visitation will be held from 11 AM to 1 PM on Saturday, January 5 with Funeral Services beginning at 1 PM in Flanner Buchanan – Memorial Park, 9350 E. Washington St, Indianapolis. A military burial with full honors will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Immediately following the burial, there will be a celebration of life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association and to the Susan G. Komen of Central Indiana. Donate to alz.org or komencentralindiana.org.
