John Edward Taylor

John Edward Taylor, known to some as JET, passed away in Indianapolis, Indiana, on January 11, 2018, at the age of 63, surrounded by family and friends. A South Bend native, John attended Ball State University, graduating magna cum laude (1977), and Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law J.D., magna cum laude (1980). John began his career as founding partner of Williams, Taylor & Schmidt. He continued to practice law in Indiana for over 35 years representing diverse clients from internet banking to printing industry to information technology. John received many accolades throughout his lifetime including Sagamore of the Wabash (2004), and Indiana Super Lawyers 2004-2013. He was associated with the Indianapolis Bar Association, Indiana State Bar Association, American Bar Association, Indiana Trial Lawyers Association, and American Association for Justice. His civic activities included Knights of Columbus, Indiana Legislative Commission on Autism, (2001-2005) and Indiana Commission on Autism (2007-2014). He served as Parliamentarian for the Indiana House of Representatives 1997-2003 and 2007-2010. John is survived by his wife of 22 years, Cara (Thacker), children Abbey, Oriana (Steve) Cochard, Chelsea Walter, Seth, Noah, and Lia. John will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren Cade and Ames, his brothers Tim (Janie) and Matt, and father Bob (Nancy) of South Bend, IN. John was predeceased by his mother Una Fay. John will be remembered as a thoughtful advisor, beloved colleague and loyal friend. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4-8pm at Flanner Buchanan Oaklawn Memorial Gardens (Conner Suite), 9700 Allisonville Rd Indianapolis.
