Joanne Larson

Joanne E. Larson, 83, of Indianapolis, IN, went home to be with the Lord on October 24, 2016, at home after many years courageously battling Parkinson’s Disease. Joanne was born on October 10, 1933, in Battle Creek, MI, to Maynard and Lorraine Mapes who have both preceded her in death.

Joanne earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Michigan State University in 1955 and worked as a nurse in Riley Hospital in Indianapolis. She married John L. Larson, her college sweetheart, on May 5, 1956. She was a member of several different auxiliaries connected with Civic Theater and a member of Pleasant Run Children’s Home auxiliary where she was past president. She was a member of Indianapolis Day Nursery Auxiliary and among other jobs was past treasurer. She was always active in her children’s school events.

She and John traveled extensively all over the country and the world and spent winters at their home on Casey Key in Florida. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. John preceded her in death in 2009. She is survived by her three children, Sue Larson Bone (Kenny), Sandy Larson Duncan (Rod), and Steve Larson; her grandchildren, Bart and John Sides, and Mindy Bone; and her sister, Martha Schoolcraft (Al), and brother, John Mapes, as well as nieces and nephews.

The family is grateful for all the loving care she received from Nancy Detty and all the caregivers at My Extra Hands who were and will continue to be like family.
Visitation will be on Monday, October 31 from 10-11 am at Traders Point Christian Church, 6590 South Indianapolis, Whitestown, IN. Service will follow at 11 am with Pastor Phil Wright officiating. Burial will follow the service at Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis.
