Jim Lee Messer

Age 68, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away Friday, June 2, 2017. He was born in Beech Grove, IN on July 22, 1948 to his late parents, Oliver H. and Delores L. (Bewley) Messer.

Jim served his country honorably in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He worked as a truck driver and drove for Caito Foods, retiring in 2006. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #6408 in Havana, IL, the American Legion Post #18 in Bloomington, IN, and the Moose Lodge #17 in Indianapolis. He was also a Knight Templar Greenfield Lodge, 32nd degree Mason with the New Palestine Masonic Blue Lodge #404, member of the Vietnam Veterans Association #295 in Indianapolis, and the Scottish Rite and Shrine of Havanah, IL. Jim enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and especially, playing the part of “Santa Clause” during the holidays.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Delores and brothers, Christopher Messer and David Lee. He will be lovingly missed by his wife, Barbara Ann (Faught) Messer; daughter, Danette Bauer-Mollet; step-children: Julie Oelschlecher and Mike Pursley; siblings: Paula, Catherine, Renita, Debra, Timothy, Judy, Mary, Sarah, Rachel, Paul and Beth; his grandchildren: Hannah, Tyler, Dalton, Carly, Zach, Josslyn and Josie; and many other nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Friends may gather from Noon until 2pm on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at Flanner and Buchanan- Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington St., Indianapolis, with his funeral services immediately following at 2pm. Burial will follow in Washington Park East Cemetery.
