Jeanne Ellen Monroe Bubala

January 20, 1945 — December 1, 2016

Jeanne Ellen Monroe Bubala died on December 1, 2016. Jeanne was born in Indianapolis on January 20, 1945, to Ralph and Eleanor Monroe. She graduated from Pike High School in 1963, Indiana University in 1967, and Washington University in 1974. She was married in 1967 to Louis M. Bubala Jr., who died in 2005. Jeanne was a teacher and counselor in St. Louis. After moving to Carmel, she and Lou eventually owned and operated a small business in Indianapolis. She also worked over the years at Lazarus, Century 21 Scheetz, and Clay Terrace. Jeanne got the most joy from her family, spending time with Lou, their sons, Lou III and Andy, and her grandchildren. She loved planning the annual family summer vacation, two-week driving marathons to a different part of the country each year. She visited all 50 states. Her other love was gardening. Jeanne became a Master Gardener and volunteered with the Coxhall Guild at Coxhall Gardens, including work on the Children’s Garden. She also volunteered with St. Margaret’s Hospital Guild, helping with gardening and landscaping for the Decorators’ Show House. In her earlier years, she was an active member of the Indianapolis Zoological Guild and various Carmel Clay Parent-Teacher Organizations. She is survived by sons, Lou, his wife, Jill, and their children, Louis IV, Zora and Maylyn, in Reno, Nevada, and Andy, his wife, Junko, and their son, Kai, in Tokyo; brother, Bruce Monroe, and his wife, Elizabeth, of Wilmington, Delaware; sister-in-law Elizabeth Gregor; brother-in-law Paul Bubala, and his wife, Carol; and nieces and nephews Gayle Smith, Marty Gregor, John Bubala, Beth Engels, and Mary Bubala. Visitation will be at Flanner and Buchanan-Oaklawn Gardens (Conner Suite), 9700 Allisonville Road, from 12:30-2:30 p.m. Monday, December 5, 2016, with service and burial following. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Margaret’s Hospital Guild, ShowHouseIndy.org.
