Anyone who knew Jean would say that she was one of the sweetest people they had ever met. Jean lived by the motto “Love conquers all” and practiced that belief on a daily basis. Having only an eighth-grade education, Jean was nonetheless wise in the ways of the world. Having a sister many years older than she was, Jean was in essence an only child who grew up with a worldview formed by the Great Depression, World War II, and the numerous movies that she loved to take in at the local movie house. That said, Jean was accepting of all people, regardless of their race, color, religion, or any other difference from her.
Jean moved frequently, as her dad’s job was to start new glass factories all over the eastern half of the United States. The constant movement from town to town made Jean feel even more like an only child that did not quite fit in, but, despite these insecurities, Jean always managed to make friends through her open and accepting personality.
Ask her two boys Dennis and Russ, and they will tell you that Jean was the best mom a guy could have. When the boys would get into trouble, Jean would ask what she had done wrong to allow her boys to behave in a manner unacceptable to her, but she never blamed the boys for their behaviors. She was the mom that was always there with a Band-Aid or a shoulder to cry on. And if the situation was really dire, a cookie could always be produced to solve the situation.
Jean was wife to Harold “Tubby” Gray, whom she loved dearly, and from whom that love was returned in equal measure. Ask Dennis or Russ what their greatest gift in life has been, and they will tell you it was being the son of Jean and Harold.
Jean leaves to Cherish her memory Sons, Dennis Gray (Rachel) and Russell Gray (Ruth).
Jean will be sorely missed by all of those who knew her. The world has less love in it with her passing.
