Janice Carolyn Holmgren (Claudy), 79, passed away on Sunday, August 14, 2022 in Avon, IN. She was born April 19, 1943 in Frankfort, IN to Ralph Wilson and Mary Caroline (Phillippe) Claudy. She was the first of three daughters, Sheila Ann, Rebecca ‘Becky’ Jo.

Janice grew up in LaCrosse, IN and attended LaCrosse High School, graduating Valedictorian. She had a deep love for music, as her father was a high school music teacher. Janice furthered her education through Methodist Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1964.

Janice married Dennis ‘Denny’ Holmgren on June 12, 1965 at LaCrosse Methodist Church. Together they had two daughters, April Burke (1967) and Jacqueline ‘Jackie’ Holmgren (1970). They moved to Terre Haute, IN in 1969 before settling in Indianapolis in 1990. In 2022, Janice and Denny celebrated 57 years of marriage.

She served as a nurse for 48 years, including work as a surgical nurse at Union Hospital in Terre Haute and at Surgery Center Plus in Indianapolis. Janice celebrated retirement in 2012. Her generous heart and her love for education lead her to a career as a nurse and caregiver.

Janice was an avid Purdue University and Indianapolis Colts fan; she spent many weekends tailgating in all weathers. She enjoyed cheering on her grandchildren at their sporting competitions and dance & musical arts performances. She was a talented seamstress, sewing both her daughters’ wedding gowns, grandchildrens’ baptism, communion attire, and many costumes. She was also skilled at playing the French horn. Her favorite pastime of all was celebrating every holiday and spending time with friends and family.

Janice was very active in her local churches and dedicated to serving the community through various volunteer opportunities and donation drives. She was a member of the choir and youth leader at Breden Memorial United Methodist Church in Terre Haute. Later in life, she became a beloved member of the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church in Indianapolis where she helped establish “Bags of Love,” a ministry outreach program. Her love for bible study and fellowship was infectious. Her proudest accomplishment was always her family and being a faithful servant of The Lord Jesus Christ.

She is survived by her loving husband, Denny, and two daughters April (James) Burke and Jackie Holmgren (Dan Zielinski)  along with her six grandchildren and two great-grandsons: Elizabeth ‘Betsey’ (Tyler) McCamish (great-grandsons, Rory and Wells), Vanessa Smith, Joshua Smith, Sean Smith, Arianna Holmgren Zielinski, and Cosette Holmgren Zielinski. Janice is also survived by her sisters, Sheila and Becky (Randall) Roberson; and many cherished cousins, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Janice was very proud of all her family members and leaves a legacy of love.

Janice is preceded in death by her parents; grandparents, Ralph Harold and Lois Doris Claudy, Daniel Maynard and Alzena Claire Phillippe, and in-laws Arthur and Ocie Holmgren.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at 4 PM at Flanner Buchanan-Speedway 2950 N High School Rd, Speedway, IN 46224 with visitation two hours prior to service.
