James Lee Browning, 86, of Indianapolis, IN passed away on May 29, 2019. Jim was born on October 26, 1932 to the late James B. and Helen R. Browning in Portsmouth, OH.
Jim graduated from Washington High School in 1951 in and completed an associate degree from Portsmouth Business College. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 – 1954 and was discharged with the rank of Corporal. After leaving the military, Jim worked for the State of Ohio Department of Revenue, and also as a supervisor for the State of Indiana Department of Revenue, retiring in 1996.
Jim enjoyed playing poker, listening to classic country music and spending time with friends and family. He was a devoted member of East Rawles Church of God and dedicated countless hours of his time to volunteering.
Jim is survived by his beloved children, Pam (Robert) Myers, Debbie (Jerry) Mounce, David (Jenni) Browning, Dennis (Beth Morefield) Browning, and Kim (Ed) Mullins; and brother, Frank (Connie) Browning. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 61 years, Alma Darlene Browning; son, Shawn Patrick Browning; and sister, Regina Osborne.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 3, 2019 from 10AM-1PM at Flanner Buchanan – Memorial Park, 9350 E. Washington Street, Indianapolis. Funeral service will immediately follow at 1PM at the funeral center. Burial with Military Honors will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery.
