James “Jim” Granville Kincaid, born January 11, 1948 in Hamlin, TX was welcomed to his cabin in Heaven’s forest by his beloved dogs, Sadie and Pepper, on January 9, 2018 after making an impact on everyone he knew here on Earth. With kind eyes and an infectious laugh, Jim was always a gentle soul with a love for animals, children and everything in the nature. Graduating with a bachelor’s degree from Texas Tech University, then onto North Carolina to obtain his master’s, he went to work for 25 years as the Director of Parks and Recreation for North Miami, Florida. This is where he would meet his wife, Suzanne Kincaid, of Hollywood, Florida. Since their marriage on April 1, 1992, they built a life surrounded by friends and family in both Florida and Indiana. They enjoyed the great outdoors together by camping and hiking all over the United States. Jim was a member of Hollywood United Methodist Church. He was active in Kiwanis, the Urban Forestry Council and the Hollywood Historic Lakes District. Jim had a love and appreciation for everything to be natural and for manmade structures to be preserved as they were first built. He made it his life’s work to do so. He wrote many grants in Dade and Broward counties for the Florida beautification project and designed various parks and green spaces. His home with his wife in Hollywood was marked as an official Historic Home. Jim is survived by his wife of 25 years, Suzanne (Adkison) Kincaid, his dog, Abby and his parrot, Jasper of Fishers, IN; sister, Rochelle (and Scott) Rombokas of Hamlin, TX; close in-laws, Barbara Adkison of Fishers, IN, Bruce Adkison of Levittown, PA, Carol (and Tom) Nelson of Sullivan, IN; and everyone that lovingly referred to him as “Uncle Jim”: David (and Jenifer) Nelson & Family of Indianapolis, IN and Jamie (and Matt) Dugan & Family of Sullivan, IN. Jim will be put to rest in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Indianapolis, IN. A memorial service will be held at Flanner Buchanan-Oaklawn Memorial Gardens (Conner Suite) at 1:30pm on Thursday, located at 9700 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis, IN 46250. Visitation will begin one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial contribution to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org) or Humane Society for Hamilton County (hamiltonhumane.com).
