Jack Otis Hensley, 88, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away June 5, 2019. Jack was born on August 26, 1930 to the late William C. Hensley and the late Josephine Bruce Thompson in Indianapolis.

Jack was a dedicated career man. He was an honored veteran of both the United States Air Force and the United States Army Reserves. He retired from the reserves with the rank of Command Sargent Major. He was also a supervisor at Western Electric retiring after 36 years of service.

In retirement, Jack spent many hours volunteering in his local community. He assisted with multiple Special Olympic events, worked at Crossroads Rehabilitation Center alongside his daughter, volunteered as a children’s Sunday School teacher and was a member of the American Legion Post 220. Jack had a servant’s heart and proved his love for his community through service.

Among his other accomplishments, Jack found the time to run and complete several half marathons between the ages of 55-65. He even had the honor of running with the Olympic torches in 1984 and 1996. He was also instrumental in the creation of the veterans memorial at Raymond Park Middle School and organized the Memorial Day service at the school each year with help from the American Legion.

Jack married the love of his life, the late Nancy E. Hollis Hensley, on March 28, 1954. Together they raised three loving children.

Jack is survived by his three adoring children, Ron, Cindy (Darryll) Taylor, and Randy (Tina); grandchildren, Tyler (Rachael), Logan, Emily, Simon, Alea, Raymond, Chad (Carlene) Taylor, and Stephanie Bear; Great Grand Children Elsie Mae, Collin Higgins, Nicole Thompkins, and Riddley Taylor; and his brothers Bob Thompson, Jim Goad and sisters Sharon Thompson and Carol Hensley.

Jack is preceded in death by his parents and beloved wife along with his brothers Bill and Tony and sisters Margaret, Mildred, Norma, and Helen.

Visitation will be held at Flanner Buchanan- Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington St., Indianapolis on Tuesday, June 11, 2019 from 4-8PM. Services will be held the following day Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at 11AM at Church at the Crossing, 9111 Haverstick Rd, Indianapolis.
