J. A. Stanley, 77, of Indianapolis passed away August 26, 2021, in Noblesville, Indiana. He was born October 23, 1943, in Carmel, Indiana, to Allan King & Lillian A. (nee Johnson) Stanley. On January 28, 1971, he married the love of his life, Wanda M. Carpenter, and together they raised one child, Heather. J. was a proud veteran, serving 35 years in the United States Air Force before retiring from the 434th Operations Group, with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. Following his military service, he also worked for and retired from United Airlines. J. enjoyed gardening, both flowers and vegetables. He was an excellent cook and liked to fish. Above all, J. and Wanda loved to travel, exploring the United States in his beloved red Chrysler LeBaron convertible and flying to places all over the world. Some of their favorite locations include Italy, Austria, Frankenmuth, Michigan, Disney World, and of course Hawaii.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his infant son, Daryl Lee Stanley. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Wanda; his children, Patrick J. Murphy of Pensacola, Florida, and Heather I. Stanley of Marion, Indiana; his grandchildren, Alysia Owens, Eva Murphy, Jacob Murphy, and Caralyne Murphy; his sisters, Jean Ann Goad (and husband Tom Goad) of San Marcos, California, and Judith Agnes Shuck (and husband Robbie Shuck) of Westfield, Indiana; and extended family and friends, including his close friend and fellow service member, Phil Persi. To those who knew him, J. is remembered for being a wonderful husband, father, and brother, a steady, dependable, loving friend, and a truly good man.

The family invites friends to a visitation from 2-3 p.m. Monday, August 30th, 2021, at John Knox Presbyterian Church at 3000 N. High School Road in Indianapolis.
