Herbert Eugene Parks

HERBERT EUGENE PARKS, MD, 86 years old, passed away July 26, 2019, and resided in Bloomington, IN. He was born on February 26, 1933 in Kokomo, IN., grew up in Delphi, IN. graduating in 1951 from Delphi High School. Herb was the son of Laura and Edrite Parks of Delphi, IN. and is survived by his wife, Doris, son Michael Parks, sisters Miriam (Parks) Hedrick, Mary Lou (Parks) Woods. Herb was preceded in death by his daughter Karen Parks.

Herb attended the School of Music at Valparaiso University for one year before transferring to Indiana University School of Medicine. While at IU, he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity and graduated from the School of Medicine in 1959. He did his residency in Radiology at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX. As a diplomat of the American Board of Radiology, he worked as a radiologist at Community Hospitals in Indianapolis until his work was interrupted by a call to serve his country as Lieutenant at the Great Lakes Naval Hospital from 1967 to 1969. Following his service in the Navy, he returned to finish his 30 year career at Community Hospitals, retiring in 1993.

Herb was a member of the Radiological Society of North America, American College of Radiology, Indiana Roentgen Society, and Scientech Club of Indianapolis, Free Masons and Scottish Rite.

He is remembered as a gentle person who was sensitive, had a kind heart, a keen sense of humor, was soft spoken, and had a dry wit. He was an excellent pianist and loved to improvise his music with some boogie-woogie He enjoyed playing jazz, loved performing with other jazz artists, and wrote his own compositions. He took pleasure in listening to jazz artists such as Dave Brubeck, Oscar Peterson, Erroll Garner, as well as classical music, especially Mozart. He also had a passion for photography.

Herb will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 6, 2019 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Flanner Buchanan-Oaklawn Memorial Gardens (Conner Suite), 9700 Allisonville Rd., Indianapolis. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 PM. Military honors will take place at the entombment.
