Helen June Mcghee

June 1, 1940 — May 11, 2023

Carmel, IN

June passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2023, at the age of 82, of natural causes in Carmel, Indiana.

June was born on June 1, 1940, to Helen and W.J Crutcher in Essex, Missouri. June spent the first eighteen years of her life in Essex. She grew up surrounded by family and friends and loved to tell stories about her life growing up there.

June met the love of her life, Ron McGhee, when they were in elementary school. They were married February 2, 1959, and moved to Columbia, Missouri. There Ron attended The University of Missouri while June worked at the campus library. June and Ron spent their young adult lives raising their three daughters, as Ron’s work moved them from state to state. June built a network of great friends everywhere she lived.

June and Ron loved traveling and had many adventures together. June also loved to play and watch sports of all kinds. She played golf, volleyball and tennis. She also could be found bowling, roller-blading, and cross-country skiing. Throughout her life, she also loved any excuse to be on a boat and enjoyed swimming and fishing. June’s favorite time to go see a movie was during the matinee, mainly so she could have the excuse to enjoy a tub of popcorn for lunch. June taught us all to live life to the fullest.

June was also an active volunteer. She was a Stephen Minister as well as a Hospice respite provider. She delivered Meals on Wheels, was a loving visitor at many nursing homes, often including her daughters on her visits. June packed medical relief boxes at MAP International and answered phones at the church office. She was a camp counselor and Brownie Scout leader. June had a heart for helping others.

June is preceded in death by her husband, Ron; her sister, Wilma Cox; brother-in-law, Jim Cox; grandson, Kyle Stevens; and her parents, Helen and W.J Crutcher.

June is survived by her daughters, Sherry Ellis (Bob) of Brunswick, GA; Rhonda Stevens of Carmel, IN; Amanda McGhee (Shelley Hunter) of Carmel, IN; Grandchildren, Rob Ellis (Abby) of Brunswick, GA; Erin Shipp (Mike) of Edmond, OK; Libby Cole (Tyler) of Brunswick, GA; Zach Stevens (Ally) of Dallas, TX; Spencer Stevens (Jenn) of Carmel, IN; Tiffany Stevens of Carmel, IN; Greatgrandchildren, Sutton Ellis, Gretchen Wendling, Conner Ellis, Griffin Ellis, Witten Cole, Ellisyn Cole, Liam Stevens, Benji Stevens, Parker Stevens, Carter Stevens, Rylie Stevens, Collin Shipp, Kristen Shipp, and Katie Shipp; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

June was a loving and dedicated daughter, wife, mother, Nana, aunt and friend. To know her was to love her. Her smile and laughter was infectious.  She was loved and respected by all who knew her.
