George Finney was born May 14, 1966. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, mother Ola Mae Martin, born January 18th, 1931, and father George Finney Sr., born June 22nd, 1922. George’s parents both passed away in 1985, one month apart. George graduated Riverdale Senior High-school. George grew up and spent most his early life in the Colonial Coach Park where he made lifelong friends and memories. These along with many people George would cross paths with would be impacted and forever affected by his loving character. He was a selfless individual. His passions included fishing, basketball, motorcycles, and a great love for music.
George loved to write music and pen lyrics. Early in life his career was dedicated to the music industry. He got his start and worked with a band called “Never Never.” He worked for a stage company named “Crew One” at Lakewood Amphitheater and also for PAC Audio. He was “one of the best” at what he did and was defined by his work ethic. Anyone George met or talked with would always walk away changed for the better. Approximately 20 years ago George followed Eric Bottoms from Riverdale Georgia to Indiana and the two considered each other closer than brothers.
All George ever wanted was to love and be loved. He lived with Eric and his family helping him raise his boys, and they eventually moved together to Monticello, IN. At that time George worked, he fished, he was a DJ, and he found his voice doing karaoke. He is known for his smile that lit up a room his raspy speech and unbelievable singing voice. Karaoke night with DJ George was always a blast. Approximately 5 years ago George followed Eric to a local church seeking answers. Here he met Chris Overmyer who helped him find his way and his faith and became a close friend.
A couple of years ago George moved to Indy with a new perspective. He found a job he loved, sang in a church choir, and volunteered at homeless shelters, always trying to help others out. George is survived by people he considered his family: Eric “Big E” Bottoms (Monticello, IN), Brian “Rock and Roll” Nass (Phoenix City, AL), Nephews Aric, Max, and Dre Bottoms (Atlanta, GA) and Niece, Olivia Bottoms (Monticello, IN), along with several close friends he met along the way.
