Geneva Florence Lane (Mobley)

Geneva Florence (Mobley) Lane, 95, died on November 7, 2018, in Safety Harbor, Florida. Geneva was born September 16, 1923, in Holly (Oakland County), Michigan, to Albert Earl Mobley and Naomi Irene (Marvin) Mobley. Twenty-two months later her brother, Lawrence Eugene Mobley, was born on July 8, 1925. In 1937 the family moved to Indianapolis, Indiana. Geneva graduated from Indiana Academy in Cicero, Indiana, in May of 1942. On April 25, 1943, she was united in marriage to Glover Eduard “Ed” Ooley in Indianapolis, Indiana. They moved to Southern California where they lived for six years and where their first child, Geoffrey Eduard, was born. After returning to Indianapolis, two more children were born, Barbara Kathleen and Michael Deane. Geneva and Ed were divorced on December 7, 1955. Geneva worked for JennAir Products, Electric Heat of Indiana. For 25 years she worked at the Milk Market Administrator’s Office of the United States Department of Agriculture in Indianapolis. On December 24, 1972, Geneva was married in Indianapolis to John Henry Lane. The marriage lasted more than 32 years – until John’s death on January 2, 2005. Geneva was a strong, independent, and compassionate woman. She quietly gave back to the community, playing the piano and organ at church, and volunteering 2,719 hours at Mease Countryside Hospital in Safety Harbor. She spent the last year showing her strength and independence recovering from a stroke. She learned to talk, write, and read again all while keeping her spirit high. Geneva was predeceased by her parents and brother. Survivors are her three children: Geoffrey Eduard Ooley and wife, Michelle, of Indianapolis, Barbara Kathleen Shaw of Safety Harbor, and Michael Deane Ooley and wife, Lita Jacoste, of Rancho Palos Verdes, California; three grandchildren: James Shaw and wife, Terri, of Safety Harbor, Stephanie Shaw of Los Angeles, Catalina Ooley of Rancho Palos Verdes; one great grandchild: Naomi Grace Shaw of Safety Harbor; three stepchildren: Scott Lane and wife, Patty, of Danville, Indiana, Rebecca Lane of Indianapolis, John D. Lane of Indianapolis; step grandchildren: JD Lane and wife, Crystal, of Danville, Indiana, Joshua Lane and wife, Jessica, of Danville, Indiana, Susan Lane, Maria Lane, David Lane, John Lane, and Michael Lane of Indianapolis; step great grandchildren: Jada Lane, Malachi Lane, and Lacey Jo Lane of Danville, Indiana, Theodore Scott Lane, Charly Kay Lane, Isaac Lane, and Leanne Lane of Danville, Indiana. Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life Saturday, May 18, 2019 from 10-1 PM at Flanner Buchanan - Decatur Township, 5463 Kentucky Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana 46221. Geneva will be laid to rest at Rose Hill Cemetery in Newburgh, Indiana following services.
