Gene Harold Larue

January 29, 1928 — September 5, 2022

Gene Harold LaRue (94) went to be with the Lord on September 5th at Five Star Residences of Noblesville. He was surrounded in love and prayer by his family at the time of his passing. Gene was born on January 29th, 1928 in Washington State. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold John LaRue and Mildred Pearl (Olson) LaRue and his three siblings; Marjorie (LaRue) Rohdes, Donald LaRue, and Mavie (LaRue) Beutel. Gene was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 23 years, Anne (Wark) LaRue.

Gene is the beloved father of three daughters; Linda (LaRue) Scott /Brendan, Penny (LaRue) Cobb/James, and Lisa (LaRue) Morris/Mike. He has five grandchildren; Casey Parent/Harry, Ryan Scott, Nate Morris/Olivia, Sophia Morris, and Olivia Morris. Gene also has three great-grandchildren; Natalie Parent, Jameson Parent, and Aubrey Parent.

Gene was an army veteran of the Korean War where he served as an illustrator for the Stars and Stripes while stationed in Tokyo, Japan. He acquired a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Indiana University Herron School of Art and Design and worked as a commercial artist throughout his career before retiring from MDP, INC., a commercial art design studio in Indianapolis. Gene had been involved in the art community for over sixty years, including being a member of The Hoosier Art Salon, The Indianapolis Watercolor Society, and the Indiana Heritage Arts. He also participated in various art shows where his work was submitted annually for display at the Indiana Heritage Arts, The Hoosier Art Salon, and the Indianapolis State Fair, rendering numerous first prize placements and honorable mentions. Gene remained active with his love for painting until the very end, producing paintings and friendly greetings for the staff and residents where he lived in his later years.

Besides painting, Gene was also very passionate about politics and national/world events. He kept himself well informed with local and national news and enjoyed having spirited conversations with anyone willing to engage. Gene’s other interests included tennis, working in his yard, and in his latter years playing Anagrams with his daughters.

Of the many interests that Gene enjoyed throughout his life, by far his greatest passion was his family. Gene always looked forward to his weekly visits with his daughters and the many family gatherings enjoyed throughout his life. Gene had a saying that he frequently stated, “Family is where it’s at.” Gene had a servant’s heart, was friendly to everyone, and never met a person in need that he didn’t take time to help. He was known for his tremendous compassion, joyful disposition, and love for family. Gene was a very loving and caring son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend to all who knew him.
