Evelyn Yauk

Evelyn Nadine (Kocher) Yauk, 83, of Franklin, Indiana passed away on May 14, 2022.

She was born on September 20, 1938, in Beech Grove, Indiana to the late Clarence and Ruth Kocher. Evelyn, affectionately known as “Granny” to many, can best be remembered by her one-of-a-kind, quirky personality.

Evelyn graduated from Franklin Central High School in 1956 and worked at Indiana National Bank for 12 years prior to getting married and starting a family. She spent the next several years being a stay-at-home mom and later returned to banking on a part-time basis at Merchants National Bank. In retirement, she enjoyed babysitting and spending time with her grandchildren when they were young, including reading with them and playing numerous board games (especially Monopoly and Yahtzee which were her favorites). She also enjoyed spending a lot of her free time at the Beech Grove Senior Citizen Center where she found new hobbies in doing yoga, line dancing, square dancing, and attending group-sponsored field trips.

Evelyn was an avid animal lover, especially dogs, and they seemed to love her caring and gentle nature in return. She loved movies, especially if the main character was a dog. She also enjoyed NASCAR, country and gospel music, attending live music events, playing the lottery, and most of all, she loved to travel with her family.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Gail (Steven “Randy”) Lewis; her grandchildren, Eric (Shelby) Lewis, Elizabeth (Nicholas) Hodges; her great-grandchildren, Quentin Lewis, Mackenzie Lewis, Vincent Hodges, and two more great-grandchildren who will be born later this year; and her brother, Myron Kocher.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 41 years, Helmut Yauk; and her sister, Marian Hartman.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 19, 2022, from 12PM-3PM at Flanner Buchanan-Washington Park East, 10722 East Washington Street, Indianapolis, Indiana, 46229. A funeral will immediately follow the visitation at 3PM. Evelyn will be laid to rest in Washington Park East Cemetery.
