Elizabeth Ann Mcpherson

March 9, 1928 — January 16, 2023

Indianapolis, IN

Elizabeth Ann Reinert McPherson, 94, passed away peacefully January 16 in Bloomington. Betsy was born March 9, 1928 in Indianapolis to Frederick and Ruth (Hirschauer) Reinert and resided in Indianapolis most of her life. She is preceded in death by her parents, her past husband Eugene McPherson and her five sisters Barbara Edwards, Mary Sue Lenahan, Jaqueline Flanagan, Carol Barth and Alice Reinert. Betsy is survived by her ten children: William (Katharine), Freedom, Indiana; Gregory (Shirley), Westerville, Ohio; Elaine, Woodbridge, Virginia; Charles (Elisa), Warsaw, Indiana; Michael (Teresa), Virginia Beach, Virginia; James (Kay), Mount Juliet, Tennessee; Kevin (Ana-Elena) Syracuse, Utah; Dr. Linda (Paul) Kern, Bloomington, Indiana; Kathrine Hite, Roanoke, Virginia; and David (Christine), Carmel, Indiana; 32 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Raised in the parish of St Therese Little Flower Catholic Church, Betsy was baptized, attended elementary school and later married there. After graduating St Mary’s high school, Betsy attended St Vincent’s nursing school, achieved her RN and worked several years in the nursing field before marrying Eugene McPherson.

Betsy was a devoted mother, raising ten children. While managing a chaotic household, she ensured every child received the love and attention he or she needed. A devout Catholic all her life, Betsy saw all her children received a Catholic education. After her own children were grown, Betsy continued to mother the next generation, often babysitting her grandkids who knew her lovingly as “Grandma Betsy.” Later in life she returned to the field of nursing, retiring from Central State Hospital. Betsy was an avid reader throughout her life, enjoyed playing games on the computer and spent hours gardening. Strong and selfless with a seemingly infinite well of love, Betsy will be missed by all who knew her.
