Elizabeth Ann Haas

January 11, 1982 — October 20, 2018

Indianapolis, Indiana

Elizabeth Ann Haas (Swinney), 36, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away surrounded by her family and friends, October 20, 2018. She was born January 11, 1982 in Indianapolis to Les and Becky Swinney; one of two daughters.

She was a lifetime Indianapolis resident and attended Ben Davis High School. She met the love of her life, Fred Haas, in her mid-twenties and the two were inseparable since. Their first date, at La Hacienda, Fred knew then that she was the one stating, “She was just remarkable!” The two went on to spend 11 beautiful years of marriage together, raising their beautiful little girl, Hannah. Elizabeth wanted nothing more than to be a mother; it came naturally to her and she was known to care for every child she met, family or not. She was thrilled to find out Hannah was on the way. She really came into her own, found her calling, when she became a mother; it was what she was meant to do and who she was meant to be. Hannah, 5, calls her mom her best friend and the two loved taking silly pictures together. Elizabeth is remembered as a big hearted, bullheaded friend to anyone she met. She loved taking care of others, especially when she could use her crafting talents to make them a personal gift. She enjoyed crocheting and working with vinyl; her masterpieces were often used for fundraisers to help those in need. While we all remember her as the kind of woman who always did her own thing, who was unafraid to speak her mind regardless of what anyone thought, she truly had a heart of gold that many failed to recognize. She never failed to stand up for those she loved and always loved with everything she had. Fred was right, Elizabeth was a remarkable woman and will be truly missed by every person she touched. We could all learn a thing or two from a woman like this, she was completely, unapologetically herself and the world is a little dimmer now that she is gone.

Elizabeth is preceded in death by her grandparents, Elmer Swinney, Cecil Barber, and Hester Barber; uncle, Donald Barber; cousin, Scott Barber. Surviving to cherish her memory are loving husband of 11 years, Fred Haas; daughter, Hannah Haas; Austin Barber, who was like a son her her; parents, Les Swinney, Becky Swinney (Barber); step-mother, Mary Beth Swinney; paternal grandmother, Phyllis Swinney; sister, Megan (Charlie) Zepp; nieces, Molly and Isabelle Zepp, nephew, Lincoln Zepp; as well as a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends whom Elizabeth adored.
