Douglas Earl Bish, 63, Indianapolis, went home to be with his Lord June 30, 2022. He was born on October 15, 1958, in Punxsutawney, PA to Ted Earl and Natalie Ann Bowser Bish. Doug graduated from Punxsutawney Area School in 1977 and received an associate degree in Criminology from Indiana University of PA in 1979.
After working in the oil and gas industry for several years, Doug discovered his true calling as a firefighter. He started at Washington County Fire Department which later merged with the Indianapolis Fire Department. On his off days from the department, he worked for Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital as a neo/peds transport driver. He retired from the IFD after 25 years on April 1, 2015, and eventually retired from the Hospital at the end of 2019. Since then, he has kept busy at Hertz transporting cars. Doug received the Angel Medic Award from Ascension St Vincent Hospital for a lifetime of service to others.
Doug was an avid golfer, a loving grandparent to 5 grandsons who called him PaFish and Bob Evans Grandpa. He was a loving husband and father/stepfather. He was an active volunteer and involved deeply in the community.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Grace Marie Bernt Bish, Melissa (Chad Sika), Melinda (Chris Linday), Jessica Chval and Aaron Chval (Jennifer), grandchildren Conor, Kaiden, and Chase (Sika) and Ryker and Rowan (Chval), and sister Debra (Robert Santos), niece Bethany Santos and nephew Michael Santos (Maggie).
Memorial contributions may be made to Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital, 2001 West 86th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46260.
Visitation will be held Wednesday July 6th from 5-7pm at Flanner Buchanan-Oaklawn Memorial Gardens (Conner Suite), 9700 Allisonville Rd. Indianapolis. Visitation will resume Thursday, July 7th at 8:30 am with funeral services immediately following at 10:30am. Online condolences may be shared at www.flannerbuchanan.com.
