Dorothy Janice "Dottie" Morgan

August 19, 1935 — September 4, 2022

Indianapolis, Indiana

Dorothy Janice (Wolcott) Morgan was born to Sidney and Ethel (Lower) Wolcott on August 19, 1935.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years Bert Morgan, her brothers Howard and Dale Wolcott, and her sister and best friend, Maris Black.

Raised in Rockford, Illinois, Dottie’s love of children led her to a teaching degree at Greenville College. She and Bert were married on June 14, 1958 and settled in Indianapolis, Indiana. In 1965 Dottie and Bert, along with their girls, were one of the founding families of Heritage Christian School, where she was the original 2nd grade teacher.

A fifth generation and life-long Free Methodist, Dottie was most recently a member of the Avon Light & Life FMC. Dottie & Bert were passionately involved in World Missions through the FMC VISA program, serving in the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, and Mexico. In addition, they traveled to Russia helping spread the gospel of Christ.

In her professional and volunteer life Dottie wore many hats, practicing servanthood, “follower”ship and leadership, doing any task needed. She was a life-long teacher at school and church. An avid crafter and quilter, she taught craft classes into her 8th decade through CLC and VBS. Earlier in life she taught CYC at church and Camp Wildwood. She was also involved in many youth ministries including her personal favorite, Bible Quizzing. She helped and encouraged several generations to hide God’s Word in their hearts. Her deep love of music flowed to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Her family would like to give a very special thank you to Pastor Deana Hayes and Leah Wolcott Fayette. Deana’s thoughtful visits and emails became a source of great joy for Dottie and Leah’s special loving care for her “Ain’t” Dottie was treasured by all.

Dottie is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Candi Morgan, Kerri and Jeff Drummond, and Kris and Randy Randall; her grandchildren and spouses, Kaice (Randall) and Greg LaFavers, Alexander Morgan Drummond and Kara Wadenstierna, Thomas and Erin Randall, Hannah Drummond, Joel and Roxie Randall, Natalie (Drummond) and Robert McCann, and Emma Drummond; great grandchildren Abby LaFavers, Dixie Randall, Isaac LaFavers, Evie LaFavers, and Charlotte Randall; and siblings Verna Shafer and Kay Wolcott.

Dottie was many things to many people: Dottie Jane, Mom, Grandma Dottie, Grammy, Gma, Aunt Dottie, Mrs. Morgan and friend. Because of her ability to be completely present in every situation, each person in her life felt loved and accepted as a unique individual; especially her grandchildren who each felt they were her favorite. Her deep love for her God was evident in everything she did. Her favorite way to share her Jesus was through her beautiful smile.
