Doris Ferguson Thompson

88, Indianapolis, IN went home to be with the Lord on September 28, 2017. Doris was born to the late Otis and Andover Ferguson on April 5, 1929 in Evanston, Illinois.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 38 years, Herbert Lytel Thompson, Sr. An only child, she lead child, she lead an energetic life. Employed in the accounting department of Indiana Bell Telephone Company for 10 years. She moved on to earn Bachelors, Masters and Specialists Degrees in Education from Indiana University, Bloomington. For 28 ears, she worked in the Indianapolis Public School System as a teacher and as a consultant to teachers in the Special Education Department. Her work merited the Mayor’s Task Force, Upswing 68 Award. The Indianapolis Public Schools Certificate of Success Award and the Indianapolis Recorder Charities Award.

After retirement, teaching in the Hooverwood Early Childhood Education program and being a member of the Hooverwood Guild were activities especially enjoyable to her. Also, participation in programs sponsored by the Washington Park Family Center, The Heritage Place for Older Adults Services and the St. Vincent Center for Women’s Health kept her social life humming. Having an interest in business, Doris earned her Real Estate Broker’s License, she was the founded Dorris Real Estate Inc. in 1987.

Preceding Doris in death was the most important person in her life, step-mother, Fannie B. Clay Taylor – Thomas B. Taylor, step-father. To celebrate her home going are the devoted step-children Harold, Herbert Jr and Susan, 7 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren, the loving family of Herbert L. Thompson, Sr., the many cousins of the Ferguson Family, Richard Taylor Family and many friends.

A viewing will be held 11:30-12:30, funeral services 12:30-1:30 on the 7th of October, 2017, Flanner and Buchannan Broad Ripple location and burial at Washington Park North Funeral Center.
