Donald Allen Glenn

Indianapolis, Indiana

Donald Allen Glenn departed this life on 12-7-2022, 91 years young.  The bell tolled at 7: 46 pm.. Dad was born and raised in Sheridan, Indiana. On May 16th, 1931. He was born to Julius Caesar and Edna Mae (Tapp) Glenn. He was the 3rd of 4 children.  He was preceded in death by both parents and all 3 of his brothers, Nathan Lee, Dr. James Stokes, Walter Glenn and his special Aunt, Mattie Weatherford, Uncle Arthur Glenn and Uncle Van Tapp.

Donald was educated in the Sheridan Public School System, throughout High School.  He started his career with Firestone of Noblesville.  He later joined the United States Army and was stationed in Germany, during the Korean War, where he worked in the Personnel Dept..  He was fluent in German and Latin since high school. And he loved his time in Germany. He returned home, and began a career with the United States Postal Service. He began his undergraduate studies at IUPUI and had met his wife Billie J. (Cook) Glenn, while they both were in high school. They were reunited after his tour of duty.  They married in 1954 and from this union Steven Julius, Carol Ann, Alice Clare, and Paul Stokes were born. Their main residence was BERKLEY RD..  Which he held dear. He worked very hard to keep the farmhouse and gardens in pristine shape. While he was employed with The Post Office, he  continued his undergraduate studies at Butler University, Majoring in English. and with his degree, he changed his career to Education.  He worked his way into a teaching role at Holy Angels Catholic  School.  In 1961, he began his life long career with Indianapolis Public School System. He received his Masters Degree at Butler University. Majoring in English.  Later he received his Principal’s license.  During his 35 year career with IPS, he was an English teacher at school 56 and Crispus Attucks High School. Donald also became dramatic instructor, college counselor, Assistant Dean, and Dean of Boys, while at Attucks.  He was appointed Vice Principal of Thomas Carr Howe High School in 1972, where he worked with pupil personnel, data processing, scheduling, student teachers, exploratory teachers and director of summer school.  Later, he was promoted to Principal of Broad Ripple High School in 1979, which was the pinnacle of his career.

Donald served on the Editorial Committee for the Hoosier Schoolmaster,  the publication of the Secondary School Administrators of Indiana. He also worked with the High School University Division Advisory Committee of Indiana University,  Butler University Advisory Board, the College of Education and he was a lecturer at Butler University Advisory Board.

Donald was a member of the National Association of Secondary  School Principals,  Indianapolis Association of Administrators,  Supervisors, and Consultants, Indiana Secondary School Administrators Association, the Parent Teacher Association,  Butler University Alumni Association,  Phi Delta Kappa Association – Butler Chapter,  Bachelors of the Benedict, and the Black Sportsmen Club.

In February 1982, he joined hands in marriage to Annjo V. Twines-Coleman. They  raised  her children Kathryn M. Coleman, Elizabeth A. Kemp and  Margaret S. Chiasson. They were

members of Witherspoon Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder.  And later they became members of Second Presbyterian Church.

During his lifetime, Donald Glenn enjoyed all sports. He received various awards and medals from Sheridan High- Football, Basketball  and Track, where he participated. He was bestowed the name Twinkle Toes, by his classmates. He enjoyed traveling to various locations, and enjoyed his Florida home during off seasons, and his love of driving.

He enjoyed the US Highway system, and many National Parks destinations. But most of all Dad would wake up and play Golf at 5 am.. As one person said – He was the GOLF PRO.  His favorite  of all was the Coffin Golf Course, where he met his friends and enjoyed his day.

Donald A. Glenn leaves to mourn his loss, His beloved wife – Annjo V. Glenn Ed, D.,  his children- Steven J.(Janice) Glenn – Principal – Retired IPS Administrator,  Carol A. (Charles) Morrison-Attorney,  Alice C. (Mark Sr.) Artis – Child Care Manager- GoodWill-Excel Center-Decatur Township and Paul S. Glenn Sr.- Supervisor of Security, Federal Court House-Indpls..

He leaves his Grandchildren to mourn his loss – Alexander K. (Tomo) Morrison of Los Angeles, Ca., Vanessa M. Glenn of Dallas, Tx., Paul S. ( Russhanda) Glenn Jr., Mark E. Artis II, Melissa N. (Sterling Sr.) Davis,  Lauren R. Glenn and Michele J. Glenn, Chelci N. Bowles-Glenn, and Cara A. Artis of Dallas, Tx..

He leaves his Great Grandchildren to mourn his loss – Sterling M. Davis Jr., William A. Glenn-Collins, Joseph S. Glenn, Mekhi N. Davis, Gabriella J., Charlotte J. Glenn,  Lena M. Howard, Paisley B. Glenn and Maddox N. Davis.

In our Father’s life, he met alot of friends, and we are grateful for all his friends.  We are grateful for his friendships from “Old Sheridan”.  We are grateful for the close relationship between the Glenn, Glover and White families..  And all the family reunions. We are grateful for his friendship with Wayne and Maisie Glover and Bobbie White, Nora Fay White from Noblesville, Indiana. We are grateful to his special golf friends Mr. Buckner, Mr. Brown,  Walter Hart and Brian Mason.

The Family would like to thank Hoover Wood Nursing Home and Wellbrooke Of Carmel, for his care. Special Thanks to Head Nurse Ashley Collins and Mr. John Parks.  Also, Paradigm Hospice Company – Nurse Natasha.

The Outpouring of Love has been felt. And we appreciate every show of support.

Donald Glenn banked his Life on Faith. And Faith will bring you through.
