Deloris Kaye Pickett

June 4, 1938 — May 17, 2018

Indianapolis, Indiana

Deloris Kaye Pickett, 79, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on May 17, 2018. She was born June 4, 1938 to Harvey and Hilda Dunn in Indianapolis, Indiana; she was one of 5 siblings.

A Decatur Central graduate, she went into the financial industry. She worked for Bank One (now Chase) as a proof operator until her retirement in 1999. She raised 7 boys as a single mother. Her boys were her world and though she struggled at times, she provided them with not only the necessities of life, but ensured they had fun as well. Deloris was a proud Jehovah’s Witness and took pride in attending the Kingdom Hall in Drexel Gardens until her health failed her, where she then watched and listened remotely from home. The church stayed faithful to her though, often coming to her home with their message. She was a family oriented woman who loved playing games, especially Candy Crush and Euchre. Family remembers her as a great mother and grandmother who loved her Native American heritage and sharing her roots. As most women of her generation, they just don’t make them like they did back then. She was a wonderful woman who will be sorely missed by all who had the honor of meeting her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Hilda Dunn and brothers, Bob and Doug Dunn. Surviving to carry on her legacy are her children, Jim (Shirley) Pickett, Darrell Pickett, Preston Pickett, Brian (Tasha) Pickett, Kevin (Michelle) Pickett, Jay (Tara) Pickett, and Shane (Sandy) Pickett; siblings, Greg Dunn and Sandy Leathers; 33 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. Family wishes to give special recognition to granddaughter Brittani Belew and her husband William, who became primary care givers for Deloris during the last years of her life. Their devotion, care, and love did not go unnoticed and was greatly appreciated.

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial gathering honoring Deloris on Sunday, June 3 from 2-6 PM at Flanner Buchanan -Decatur Township, 5463 Kentucky Avenue, Indianapolis, 46221.
