David Brian Chalfant

October 16, 1956 — December 19, 2021

Carmel, IN

Surrounded by his family and friends, Dr. David Brian Chalfant (Pops), entered eternal life on December 19, 2021. His spirit is carried on by his devoted wife of 34 years, Tonna J. Chalfant, his two children Ashley (Josh) Kays, Zachary (Thea) Walden; his grandchildren Krue Walden, Olivia & Lillian Kays. His Sisters Brenda (Dave) Johnston and Pam (Greg) Cassady; brother, Nick Frankville; nieces, nephews and an extended family of friends and colleagues who all loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents Dr. John M. Chalfant and Beverly Ann Duesterhaus (Donkerbrook), brother Jon T. Chalfant, uncle Thomas E. Donkerbrook and his nephew Jeramy D. Cassady.

David was born on October 16, 1956 in Fargo, North Dakota. He graduated Dekalb High School in 1974. He then went on to Hillsdale College where he continued to display his unparalleled athletic abilities on the football field, while earning a Bachelor of Science in 1978. He matriculated into Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, IA where he earned his Doctor of Chiropractic in 1982. Doc, as he was commonly and affectionately referred to, had just celebrated his 40th year as a successful and compassionate chiropractic practitioner. Among his myriad of accomplishments Dr. Chalfant had an advanced education in Chiropractic Neurology, Functional Neurology, Functional Endocrinology, Functional Immunology, neurotransmitters of the brain, Functional Nutrition, Physical Medicine, a Certified Gluten Practitioner and was a Board Eligible Chiropractic Neurologist with the Carrick Institute of Neurology.

David was a 23rd degree Mason, an avid and prolific outdoorsman, a passionate lifelong learner, a woodworker, and a shockingly efficient tinkerer. He was the human embodiment of positivity; always touting affirmations and instilling his lovely ideals in his family and friends. David was a kid to his very core, never met a stranger, always the life and laughter of the party and a deeply, deeply fierce friend. A beautiful man, both inside and out, he was kind, compassionate, intelligent, sincere and steadfast in his beliefs.

While he loved all of these things in life there was nothing he loved more than his family. He was a proud father and grandfather; often gushing of his kids accomplishments and showing pictures of his grand babies to anyone who would care to look. He couldn’t wait to welcome his second granddaughter in the spring and often responded to his daughter’s pregnancy updates with “God is Good!” While we all will eternally grieve the loss of this tremendously larger than life man, no one will feel this profound loss the way in which his wife will. Married 34 years and best friends every last minute of their time together here on Earth, they truly found a soulmate in one another. Like the roots of a decades old oak tree; their lives and love were intertwined and united in every way two lives can be. Pops, we love you unfathomably and will carry you with us in all we do until we are together again.

From the mouth of Dr. David Brian Chalfant “all real men should know this prayer by heart.”

A Psalm of David.

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil; for thou art with me ; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.Surely goodnesss and mercy shall follow all the days of my life: and I dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.
