Danny Lee Peterson, 72, of Carmel, Indiana, passed away June 19, 2021. He was born December 1, 1948, in Salina, Kansas the son of the late Donel L. and Shirley M. (Hagler) Peterson. On June 6, 1970, Dan married the love of his life, Carole Kempf.
Danny was raised in the Salina area, then moved with his family to St. Joseph, Missouri where he attended high school and 2 years of college. He then transferred to N.W. Missouri State University to complete his B.S. degree in Education. It was there where he met his future wife, Carole Peterson. After college, Dan taught junior high for 6 years, then moved on as a rep for Spartan Sporting Goods. He worked at Altec Industries from 1984-2014 as a salesperson and later as Director of Sales. He finished his career at Altec working with strategic accounts and retired in 2014.
Danny was always active in his church. He was a youth leader as a young adult and later he became a small group leader for the junior high. As Dan’s faith grew, he began sharing it with others. Dan’s kind and caring heart and zest for life drew many friends around him. He made it his life’s mission to lead others to the Lord in whatever place God had him at the time.
Dan was a sports enthusiast. He loved golf and fishing especially. He enjoyed the comradery he had with his friends, always asking for “extra strokes”. Dan enjoyed music and was an avid reader. Dan enjoyed life and making others feel special. He always treated everyone the same. His family, especially his grandchildren, were his pride and joy.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Carole Peterson; two daughters, Danielle (Greg) Storrs and Krista (Kyle) Hilgendorf; grandchildren, Titus, Addi, and soon-to-be-born Baby Storrs and Ryne and Delaney Hilgendorf; brother, John (Sheila) Peterson; sister, Judy Peterson; and brother-in-law, Ken (Linda) Kempf. He was preceded in passing by a grandson, Andrew Hilgendorf.
Services will be Monday, June 28 at 11:00 am at East 91st Street Christian Church, 6049 East 91st Street. Visitation will be from 2:00-6:00 pm on Sunday, June 27 at Flanner Buchanan – Oaklawn Memorial Gardens (Conner Suite). Memorial contributions may be directed to the Neuroendocrine Tumor Research Foundation or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Online condolences may be shared by visiting flannerbuchanan.com.
