“How is it that I never saw your wings when you were here with me? When you closed your eyes and soared to the Heavens I could hear the faint flutter of your wings as you left. Your body no longer on this side, your spirit here eternally, I see your halo shine. I close my eyes and see the multi-colored wings surround me in my saddest moments and my happiest times. Mother, my angel, God has given you your assignment; always my mother, forever my angel. You fly into my dreams and when I am asleep. I feel your wings brush against my face wiping away the tears I shed since I can no longer hold you in my arms but in my heart. You earned those wings dear mother, and you will always be my angel eternal. When you closed your eyes and soared to the Heavens I could hear the faint flutter of your wings as you left.”
Cynthia Denise Bowington, 67, of Gig Harbor, WA, formerly of Indianapolis, IN, passed away on Friday, September 6, 2019 in Tacoma, WA. She was born on June 2, 1952 in Indianapolis. Today she is, as she liked to say, dancing on streets of gold with her parents, Donald Chester and Violet Hershey (Morgan) Wilson; her brothers, Don, Mike, Ken and Greg; and sister, Pam Wilson. Cindy left behind her sons, Scott and Ryan Sheppard; grandchildren, Taylor, Ashlynn, Dylan, Kendall, and Aidan; sister, Violet Princess Sparks; and a legacy of love, strength and fellowship.
Cindy was first and foremost a woman of faith. She took every opportunity to share her beliefs with everyone she met and has touched people from all over the world through fellowship and testimonials and has brought the word to countless people, many of whom, despite never having met in person, became close friends. She was a loving and caring mother; always there to support and encourage when life became difficult and guide us on the path to be compassionate, upstanding gentlemen. Despite how difficult we made it. She was a protective sister; always looking out for her brothers and sisters, willing to do everything she could to make sure they were taken care of. She was dependable aunt; always there with advice or a kind word. She delighted in her family, both in blood, and her brothers and sisters in Christ.
Cindy struggled with multiple myeloma and leukemia for the past several years, but despite all of her struggles she maintained a positive outlook and a source of hope and courage for those around her that were dealing with similar situations. She signed up for every research study she qualified for knowing that it would not help her in any way but willingly sacrificed her time and comfort in the hopes that her contribution might help others in the future. She took it as her personal mission to help those in her local clinic in Gig Harbor and the cancer center in Seattle cope with the stress and uncertainty. By sharing her experiences and her faith, she gave countless people hope and a smile.
Heaven now has a new angel. Her work here is done, the struggles of this world are behind her and she is now at peace. She is sorely missed but she lives on in the hearts of all the lives she has touched.
“Weep not for me though I am gone;
into that gentle night.
Grieve if you will but not for long,
upon my soul’s sweet flight.
I am at peace,
my soul’s at rest.
There is no need for tears.
For with your love I was blessed;
for all those many years.
There is no pain,
I suffer not,
The fear now all is gone.
Put now these things out of your thoughts.
In your memory I live on.
Remember not my fight for breath;
remember not the strife.
Please do not dwell upon my death,
but celebrate my life.”
