Craig A. Ramsey, 58, from Avon, IN, formally from Escondido, CA passed away on Wednesday January 23, 2019.
He was born on 11-26-1960 in San Diego, CA to Warren A. Ramsey & Sandy (Schiller) Ramsey.
He is survived by his wife Holly (Beabout) Ramsey, his parents Warren & Sandy Ramsey, his brother Robert Ramsey & sister Pamela Ramsey. Daughter Jordan (Ramsey) Purpura & son-in law Scott Purpura. Son Jared Ramsey & daughter-in law Chelise. He was such a proud Grandpa to Mason & Mackenzie (Jordan & Scott’s kids), His Grandma Iris Schiller, Aunt Kathy (Schiller) Kassel & Uncle David Kassel, Aunt Donna (Schiller) Lintner, multiple Cousins, Neices & Nephews. Craig married Holly (Beabout) on August 18, 2012.
Craig graduated from Orange Glen High School in 1979, Escondido, CA. Racing was in his blood. He enjoyed working on bikes & anything with his dad in his workshop, that was a treat he cherished. Many memories of riding his dirt bike with his kids & friends. He worked on multiple avenues of racing. Sprint Cars, Nostalgia, Motorcross, NHRA, about everything. He was a mechanic in the Atlantics Series while still in California until he got the call to join the IndyCar Series in 1998. He worked for Derrick Walker Racing from 1998-2011. At Walker racing he wore many hats & took much pride in his skills, like Mechanic, Machining, Crack Checking, Sub-Assembly & Gearbox work. He was on the pit crew that goes over the wall changing tires. Served many Indy 500s & the IndyCar Racing Series. AFS Racing (Gary Peterson) also Dreyer & Reinbold in 2011. He then joined the two-seater team with Sinden Racing in 2012. He was the show car builder, mechanic, machinist & fabricator. Also assisted with the two-seater rides at Indy. After retiring from racing, he was a forklift driver.
Craig enjoyed several hobbies like dirt bike riding, camping, going to the park to take hikes with our fur baby kids, cooking, golfing, reading books, going to & watching on TV Sporting Events, playing the harmonica & listening to all types of music.
No formal funeral services. Craig wanted to be cremated. A casual Celebration of Life with family & friends will be held in the near future.
