Clyde Hershel “Pappy” Longworth, 91, of Indianapolis, IN passed away peacefully at home on June 11, 2022.
Hershel was born on February 21, 1931 in Place, KY to Harve W. Longworth and Pearl (Wilson) Longworth. Hershel married Irene Johnson on October 26, 1950. They were married 66 years before Irene passed away.
Hershel worked in the coal mines in Harlan, KY until he moved to Indianapolis. In 1964, he took a job at US Corrugated, and in 1966 he went to work for Ford Motor Company, where he stayed until he retired in 2004. He attended Cornerstone Baptist Church in Lawrence, Indiana.
Hershel was one in a million. He loved to pull pranks and make jokes. He picked on the people he liked. He was an extremely likeable man. He was a wonderful husband and father. He took care of Irene and his kids. He loved them unconditionally and he continued this love down to grandkids, great-grandkids and great-great-grandkids. He always put his family before himself.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Mildred Irene (Johnson) Longworth, his siblings: Kenneth Longworth, Lela Golden, Muriel Chadwick, and Clarence Longworth; his son, Hershel David Longworth; grandson, Kenny Ryan Ward; great-grandson, Tristan Shortz; and great-granddaughter, Delilah Shortz.
He is survived by his brother, Ronnie (Linda) Longworth of LaFayette, Georgia; as well as his children: Benny Shannon Longworth, Sr., Kathryn Longworth, Judith Ann (Thomas) Kittinger, Debra Lynn (Daniel) Ward, Tammy Jenine Troxell, David Hershel Longworth and Benny Shannon Longworth, Jr.
Hershel is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 1pm until 2pm on Saturday, June 18, 2022, at Flanner Buchanan-Washington Park East (10722 E. Washington Street, Indianapolis), where funeral services will immediately follow, beginning at 2pm. Entombment will follow services in Washington Park East Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: The Alzheimer’s Association in the name of his wife, Mildred Irene Longworth.
