Charles E. 'Buck' Ridgeway, Jr.

Charles (Buck)Ridgeway 73, of Beaver Island died on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at the IndianaUniversity Health Center in Indianapolis, IN. Buck was born on March19, 1943 in Centerfield, OH to Charles and Wynona (Everman) Ridgeway. Hegraduated from Richland High School in 1961, Grand Valley State University in1969, and Western Michigan University in 1976. On September 4, 1964 he married Mary Ann Hazeleger in Kalamazoo, MI. Buck was a 6^thgrade teacher for Athens Area Schools for 30 years, and he retired in 1997. Healso worked for the Erie Lackawana Railroad and the Pennsylvania Railroad. Buckwas an avid golfer and enjoyed following all of his grandchildren’s sports andmusical activities. He announcedsporting events for Athens High School, coached several sports and was a trainenthusiast. In his retirement Buckvolunteered his time to organize golf leagues and tournaments for the BeaverIsland Golf Course. He is survived byhis wife of 51 years Mary Ann Ridgeway of Beaver Island; children Chuck(Danine) Ridgeway of Indianapolis, IN and Rob (Lisa) Ridgeway of Battle Creek,MI; grandchildren, Tyler and Brock Ridgeway of Homer, MI, Emily and CeciliaRidgeway of Indianapolis, IN; sister, Margaret (Marvin) Miller; brother-in-lawDirk Hazeleger, and sister-in-law Susan Hazeleger. He was preceded in death by his parents, andmother and father-in-laws Dick and Henrietta (Van Maaren) Hazeleger. A memorial reception celebrating Buck’s life will be held for family and friends at Beaver Island Golf Course on Beaver Island Michigan, Friday, July 8, 2016 from 5:30pm until 7:30pm. An earlier reception was held at Clara’s on the River, 44 MCCamly St. S., Battle Creek, MI 49017, on Tuesday, June 14th from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM.
