Charles William Thompson, 70, of Indianapolis, passed away on April 5, 2019.
Charles “Charlie” as he was known was born on January 3, 1949 in South Bend, Indiana to the late Thelma Thompson Duncan and Charles A. Thompson. After graduating from Arsenal Tech High School in 1967, Charlie honorably served his country in the United States Navy. During his time of service, he was trained as a fire fighter, so following his honorable discharge he joined the Indianapolis Fire Department on October 10, 1973. He married the love of his life, Sandra “Sandy”, in 1972 and they shared over 46 wonderful years together. Charlie was a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend. He was present and active with his 2 children, and led by example in every aspect of his life. He was a faithful man of God, who wasn’t afraid to share the blessings of his life with others.
He leaves behind his wife, Sandy Thompson; daughter, Dusty Thompson; son, Charles A. Thompson; sister, Pat (Jerry) Cox; brother, Dennis (Linda) Thompson; brothers-in-law, John Duncan, Steve (Mae) Duncan, and Larry Duncan; his life-long friend, Jerry (Dodie) Collins; and many nieces, nephews, and other beloved family members.
Friends and family are invited to gather from 12:00pm-8:00pm, on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at Flanner Buchanan- Washington Park East, there will be additional visitation from 10:00am-2:00pm on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 with a funeral service to follow at 2:00pm at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest at Washington Park East Cemetery where military honors will take place.
