Charlene V. Short

September 12, 1929 — July 23, 2022

Indianapolis, IN

Charlene V. Short, 92, of Indianapolis passed away July 23, 2022, with family at her side. She was born September 12, 1929, to Bonia Franklin and Lydia Margaret (nee Stisher) Veteto in St. Joseph, Tennessee.

Charlene was a woman of God, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many. She had a curious mind and was active in many facets of her life. Her main employment was with IPS cafeteria service, and she eventually served as cafeteria manager at both Crispus Attics and Manual high schools. She worked for many years as a troop leader for Hoosier Capital Girl Scouts, bringing the joy of singing and camping to many scouts. As a charter member of Westlake Church of Christ, she taught innumerable Sunday school classes, led women’s prayer groups and brought her mastery of cooking to the church kitchen for the fellowship of all.

She is survived by her children Julie Short, Robin Short, and Mendy Lyons; 5 grandchildren Andrew, Karla, Derrick, Stefanie, and bonus granddaughter, Tina; and three great-grandchildren Kenna, Cassidy and bonus great-grandson Lucas. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years Kenneth V. Short, Jr., and her 7 Veteto siblings Geneva, Clifton, B.F., Rex, Rachel, Louis, and Wilma.

Her loving and generous spirit lives on in the hearts of all who knew her.
