Casey Arthur Heckman

Casey Arthur Heckman, 88 of Carmel, passed away February 16, 2017. Casey was born on July 27, 1928 in South Bend, the son of the late Casimir and Carrie Hecklinski

Casey served in the Army Air Force from 1946-1949 as part of the Weather Service. He graduated from Butler University in 1954 and began a career in broadcasting that lasted 36 years. After working at multiple radio stations throughout the United States, he became a sales associate for WRTV Channel 6 in Indianapolis in 1967, and retired from there in 1990.

At Butler, Casey was a member of Alpha Epsilon Rho, the Broadcasting Honorary, and the social fraternity,Lambda Chi Alpha. Later he was a member of the Indianapolis Advertising Club, Indianapolis Advertising Associates, the Hamilton County Choral Society, the CYO Public Relations Committee, the Indiana Broadcast Pioneers, the American Broadcasting Foundation, and the Butler University Alumni Band Association. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church for over 50 years where he served as a lector, cantor, and member of the choir.

He was preceded in passing by his loving wife of 44 years Carolyn Heckman, and his sister, Beverly Buchfinck.

He is survived by brother Robert Hecklinski of South Bend, brother-in-law Robert Taylor of Owensboro, Kentucky; daughters Patty (Terry) Ritter of Fort Wayne, Kay Heckman (Scott Jensen) of Eagan, Minnesota, son Mark (Chris) Heckman of Batesville; grandchildren Taylor (Amber) Heckman of Batesville, Meredith (Jefferson) Stewart and Kaylen Ritter of Muncie, and Costin Ritter of Indianapolis; and special friend Ellen Zonin of Zionsville.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 20, 2017 at Flanner and Buchanan – Carmel. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at Saint Maria Goretti Catholic Church–Westfield.

Memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the Arthritis Foundation of Indiana.
