Carol Q. Cosby, 83, of Indianapolis, passed away on November 9, 2022. She was born on August 8, 1939, to the late Paul Eugene Quimby and Helen (Borden) Quimby. A graduate of Bowling Green State University, she taught high school and college courses in Connecticut, Cleveland, and Kent, Ohio. Carol served in many capacities in her local church in Kent, Ohio and in the community, including chair of the outreach committee, choir member, church school superintendent, President of Church Women United, President of the local League of Women Voters, and Vice-Chair of the Portage County Jail Advisory Board. She was also staff coordinator of the Luce Leadership program at the College of Wooster.
In 1988, Carol moved from Ohio to Indiana, where she served as Director of Social Action Networks for Disciples Home Missions, Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) until her retirement in 2003. She led retreats, workshops, and training events throughout the United States and Canada, with special duties in Central America, China, and Scotland.
After her retirement she did volunteer work both in the wider church and community, as well as freelance writing. She volunteered for 13 years as a tutor in an elementary school through the Oasis program, volunteered at two food pantries, and was an usher at the Warren Performing Arts Center.
Carol moved to Robin Run Village in 2012, where she served as Book Club facilitator, and chair of the Louise Evans Scholarship Fund Committee. She also was emcee for several Chimers concerts and was an active participant in Resident Council and Joy Group.
Her hobbies and interests included reading, travel, biking and walking, music, and collecting shells on the beach at Sanibel Island.
She is survived by her daughters Sharon (Geoff) Willour and Jodi (Dave) Martin, grandchildren Isaac Willour, Joshua and Ethan Martin, and a sister Janet (Jim) Scott. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jerry L. Murphy.
A memorial service will be at Allisonville Christian Church on November 23 at 2:00, with visitation one hour prior to the service.
A private inurnment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in New Philadelphia, Ohio.
The family requests that donations be made to the Disciples Women’s Endowment Fund or Disciples Peace Fellowship.
