Carl E. Barnes, 91, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on October 9, 2022. He was born November 20, 1930, in Bicknell, Indiana, to the late James and Roxie (Hatton) Barnes. Carl attended Washington High School and was captain of the football team, receiving all-state honors. He proudly served his country as a Military Policeman (MP) with the United States Air Force from 1949-1951. Carl had a solid work ethic and provided for his family by working as a Press Operator at Inland Container from 1954-1981. He also hung and finished drywall and went on to become the CEO of Barnes Drywall. Carl took pride in his work and was always there to help his children with their projects, not slowing down until recently. He enjoyed his involvement with Indy Car Racing Teams by supporting teams and attending practices, qualifications, and races for many years. He liked watching NASCAR. Dale Earnhardt was a favorite driver to follow. Carl was an avid bowler, a member of the Foresters, Knights of Columbus, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a Notre Dame fan. Carl was loved by many and will be dearly missed. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Patricia Jo (Lutz) Barnes. His children, Robert Barnes, Thomas (Cindy) Barnes, Michael Barnes, JoEllen “Jody” Messer, Donald (Debbie) Barnes, Douglas Barnes, Jennifer (Bill) White, Jessica (Jerry) Thornton, 18 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by 8 of his siblings. A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, October 17, 2022, 2:00pm at St. Ann Catholic Church, where Carl has been an active parishioner since 1956. St. Ann Catholic Church is located at 6350 S. Mooresville Road, Indianapolis, Indiana, where Memorial Visitation will take place from 12:00-2:00pm prior to his mass. Carl’s placement in his niche will occur at Floral Park Cemetery.
