Calvin D. Barker, 72, of Indianapolis, passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2017. He was born on July 2, 1944 in Danville, IL to the late Fred and Beatrice (Horton) Barker. Calvin retired from the U.S. Army after 21 years of service, leaving active duty with the rank of E8 Master Sergeant. He then began his 28 year career as a Civil Servant with the U.S. Army, retiring in 2010 as a Supervisor in the Enlisted Records Department at Fort Benjamin Harrison. During his enlistment he met the love of his life, Ayako; they were united in marriage in Okinawa on May 6, 1965. Together they enjoyed being members of the Indiana Okinawa Kenjikai. Calvin was also a collector of classic cars, including a 1986 Corvette. He is survived by his children, Marjorie Barker and Ron (Christy) Barker; grandchildren, Amber (AJ) Pike, Courtney, Samantha and Matthew Barker; great-grandchildren, Kailee and Hannah Monroe, Caden and Sophia Pike. Calvin is also survived by his brother, Robert Barker; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife of 40 years, Ayako Barker; and sister, Marjorie Whitehead. Funeral services for Mr. Barker will be held on Monday, January 30, 2017 at 1pm in Flanner and Buchanan – Memorial Park. Visitation will be 2 hours prior to the service, also at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
