Beverly Sue Bugher, 92, of Carmel, Indiana, passed away on August 9, 2022. She was born on July 14, 1930, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to the late Howard and Marguerite Baird.
After graduating from Southport High School in 1948, Beverly attended DePauw University, where she was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi and Phi Beta Kappa. During her time at university, she was set up on a blind date with fellow student Bill Bugher, and the couple continued in a courtship together through their college years. Beverly graduated with a BA in psychology in 1952 and married Bill later that year.
The couple moved to San Diego, California so Bill could fulfill his duties for the U.S. Navy. Beverly birthed her two sons, Jeffrey and Gary, during this time. After Bill’s three years of service were complete, the young family of four returned to Indiana.
Once her sons were off to college, Beverly started a new career at St. Vincent Hospital, where she spent twenty years working in patient accounts until her retirement in 1995.
Beverly will be remembered as a loving wife and gracious mother who enjoyed a number of hobbies and interests. She was a lover of books and avid reader of fiction, memoir, and humor. Her intellect, expansive vocabulary, and adept understanding of the English language would make any poet envious. Known as a fierce competitor, Beverly was always up for a card game, namely Bridge, and also enjoyed board games like Scrabble and Yahtzee. If an opportunity for a group game wasn’t available, she would challenge herself with crossword puzzles or jigsaw puzzles. She appreciated the high arts and loved post-impressionist painters like Matisse, Cezanne, and van Gogh. She was a fan of music, favoring opera, orchestral music, and musical theater. Travel was another passion, and she and Bill enjoyed many global excursions together. Above all other interests, though, Beverly’s favorite activity was spending time with family during the holidays.
Beverly is preceded in passing by her parents, Howard and Marguerite; and brother, Bill.
Beverly is survived by her loving husband of seventy years, Bill; children, Jeffrey (Ruth) Bugher and Gary (Linda) Bugher; grandchildren, Scott (Jessica) Bugher, David (Meghan) Bugher, Lindsay (Chrissy) Brown, Laura (Brett) Andrews, Evan Bugher; great grandchildren, Graham, Millie, and Eli Brown; Maddie and Gracie Andrews; and Cecelia Bugher; and sisters, Ellen Geider and Jesslyn Haas.
