Betty Ruth Hawkins

Betty Ruth Hawkins, of Danville, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, December 20, 2018 at the age of 83. Betty was born in Clio, Michigan on March 15, 1935 to Earnest and Merrill Herrick. She was the last child born of 11 siblings who all grew up in Michigan together.

Betty met Jack Hawkins while he was stationed in Michigan with the United States Navy. They would be happily married soon after, and from this union, seven children were born; Robert Hawkins, James Hawkins, Matthew Hawkins, David Hawkins, Jack Hawkins, Phillip Hawkins, and Julie Hawkins.

After having six boys and planning another they joked that they would have a ball team or a girl!  Betty and Jack were married for 33 years until his passing in March of 1988.

Betty carried herself with a quiet confidence throughout her entire life. She made sure her children were raised in a clean and tidy home and always provided 3 home cooked meals for her family every day. Betty was an excellent seamstress and would make clothing for her children as they grew up. Musical talent runs through generations of the Hawkins family, which can be attributed to Betty teaching her children and grandchildren how to play the guitar. She also played the piano quite often when she was able to find free time to relax.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory: her children; Jim, Dave, Phil, and Julie. Grandchildren; Brandy Hawkins, Shelly Hawkins, Robert Hawkins, James Hawkins, Brian Hawkins, Amy Macy, Sarah Reid Hawkins, Christopher Hawkins, David Hawkins, Jason Hawkins, Jack Hawkins, Daniel Hawkins, Rebecca Hawkins, Valerie Flick and Corey Miller.

Betty is preceded in death by her loving husband, Jack Hawkins; parents, Earnest and Merrill Herrick; children; Robert Hawkins, Jack Hawkins, Matthew Hawkins, grandchildren; Jeromy Hawkins, Danielle Hawkins, Mark Miller; siblings, Roy Herrick, Harvey Herrick, Bill Herrick, Claire Herrick, Jack Herrick, Liotta Herrick, Ila Herrick, Vern Herrick, Bob Herrick, and Millie Sisco; and a host of many other loving family and friends.
