Bernard J. (Barney) Gettys

Bernard J. (Barney) Gettys, 76, passed away May 11, 2022.

He was born and raised on the Northside of Indianapolis, attended Christ the King Catholic School and graduated from Shortridge HS in 1963. He worked for Breiner Seals & Gaskets as their head shipping clerk until his retirement in 2012.

Barney was a car enthusiast and rugged outdoorsman who enjoyed photography, history, books, classics movies, and 70’s Rock. He was an avid Colts fan and an incredibly patriotic American. A beloved Son, Brother and Uncle, who was loved and respected, that will be missed by so many.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph P. and Catherine June (Lohman) Gettys; brothers, Stephen D. Gettys, Patrick D. Gettys, and sister, Theresa E. (Gettys) Feltman; aunt, Joy (Lohman) Snedeker; niece, Brenda (Gettys) Boone; nephews, Patrick J. Gettys, Adam S. Gettys; and niece, Alana (Gettys) Partlow.

He is survived by brother, Michael D. & L. Leilani (Boykin) Gettys and their sons, Matthew D. Gettys and 2 great-nephews, and Mark P. & Laura (Wright) Gettys; brother-in-law, Paul E. Feltman and niece, Michele (Feltman) Strider & James Strider and 1 great-nephew and 1 great-niece; nephew, Andrew & Patrice (Barlow) Feltman; nephew, Timothy & Shelley (Stotts) Gettys and 1 great-niece; nephew, Daniel Gettys and 1 great-nephew and 2 great-nieces; niece, Angela (Gettys) Zolto-Alewine and 1 great-nephew; niece, Toni (Gettys) Schoenfeld and 2 great-nephews; niece, Patricia (Gettys) Phillips and 1 great-nephew and 1 great-niece; and niece, Terri (Gettys) Downey and 2 great-nephews and 1 great-niece.

Friends and family may call from 12pm until 2pm on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at Flanner Buchanan – Oaklawn Memorial Gardens (Conner Suite), 9700 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis 46250, where funeral services will immediately follow, beginning at 2pm.  Interment will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
