Barbara P. Kurtz, 86, passed away on Tuesday, December 20, 2022. She was born in Louisville, Kentucky, on July 2, 1936, to the late Elizabeth and Herman Phillips. Although born in Kentucky, Barbara grew up in Wilmington, Delaware, graduating from Wilmington Friends School. She went on to graduate from Connecticut College. Barbara met her beloved late husband Francis, and they were married in 1958. After moving many times for Fran’s job with DuPont, Barbara and Fran landed in Carmel, Indiana. Barbara immersed herself in the community: she was active in the Carmel Women’s Club, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Women’s Group, and the Sunnyside Guild (SMHG) as a life member. She loved to knit and play bridge and will be greatly missed by her many bridge and knitting group friends. Barbara also had a passion for reading, belonged to several book clubs, and could often be spotted at the Carmel library.
Barbara is survived by her daughters Betsy (David) Hudelson and Heidi (Kyle) Foyer; her grandchildren Stephen (Marianne) Hudelson, Phillip (Natalia) Hudelson, Andrew (Caroline) Hudelson, Edward (Stephanie) Hudelson, Katie (David) Hanover, Joey (Courtney) Hicks, Stuart Hudelson, and Elizabeth Hudelson; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Barbara’s family is profoundly grateful to Dr. Skierczynski and his staff at IU Endocrinologists as well as the staff at Wellbrooke of Westfield and The Barrington of Carmel for the love and care they gave to Barbara.
