Barbara Jean Roberts, 77, of Carmel, went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on July 7. She passed into His loving arms at home with her family and loved ones nearby.
Barbara was born January 25, 1941, in Dayton, OH. She graduated from Fairview High School and went to work at the Rike-Kumlar Department Store. In 1961, she went on a blind date with Glenn Roberts to see Johnny Mathis in concert. The two-hour concert resulted in 57 years of marriage, during which the couple was blessed with five children.
Barbara’s faith in the Lord was unwavering throughout her life. She shared her faith easily and lived it with every breath. She loved Jesus Christ and her family. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. Mamaw, or Moms, could always be counted on for a hug or a kind word. She took great pleasure in attending her grandchildren’s sports events, concerts, graduations and weddings.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Glenn, daughter Kathleen Roach (Joe), sons Christopher Roberts (Yve), Bryan Roberts (Jill), and Matthew Roberts (Lori); daughter Danielle James (Kevin); sister Zoa Hunter (Joe), 14 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Bruce and Mary (Pierce) Lewis.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at St Mark’s United Methodist Church, 4780 E. 126th St., Carmel, IN, 46033 (corner of 126th and Gray Road), on Tuesday, July 17. The family will receive visitors from 9 am to 11 am, with the service beginning at 11 am. Memorial donations may be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, https://www.stjude.org.
